How I Met My Dogs

I have a second family outside of my home which is fondly called C5 (Compassion 5). We were classmates way back in high school :) When HIMYM (How I Met Your Mother) became a hit in the Phils, we were hooked by the series and eventually were awed of how much similarities we have with the characters - personalities and professions wise.
I am compared to Robin Scherbatsky in the series as I used to work for a television station and has an architect boyfriend (Ted Mosby). AND I love dogs! I have five now, just like Robin. However, my dogs are not gifts from previous relationships as I have only one in my 27 years of existence in this earth of ours.

I'd love to tell you, though, how I met my dogs <3

My firsts were Britney and Gelo. Gelo is a girl, don't be fooled :) They are Japanese Spitz. I bought them from my mom's friend about 6 years ago. I initially had Britney only. Gelo was supposedly for my tito but as soon as I saw how happy Britney got that her sib is with her I claimed Gelo as mine :)) These two are inseperable. B1 and B2. Peanut butter and Jelly. Britney is active and sociable while, Gelo only interacts with the family. They were very cute when they were babies. Killer cuties, I tell you.

On my 2009 birthday, I received one of the best gifts ever from one of my tutees - Neo. He is a Shi Tzu. I fell in love with him the first time he walked inside our door. I wanted to grab him and hug him and kiss him but he was a snob! Up to now, he is. But we love him just the same because his being a brat is what defines him. It's not entirely his fault because we spoiled him to the max. He can be very sweet when he feels like it and when he is in the mood he tends to kiss us non-stop and cuddle unexpectedly.

My fourth baby is Cheska, also a shi Tzu. She is the cutest! And the most loving! And the kindest! And the most demure! I bought her last year. At first, we were hesitant to have her because we were afraid Neo would get jealous. Yes, dogs get jealous! Neo did not eat for days and appeared sad for weeks before he played with Cheska. He would fight for attention all the time and we loved it because he lost his brattyness.

Melts my heart.

The newest addition to the family is Kyle. He is actually the son of Britney and Neo. His 3 sibs died and he himself was nearing death when he was born. Britney was not able to feed him because upon chek up with the vet, she has bacteria in her blood so she has to be treated first. I served as Kyle's pseudo mom. I bottle feed him every two hours. I constantly monitored his temperature because newborn pups do not have the ability to regulate their body temperature so I had to put him under yellow lamp and put and change hot bottles in his little box. That is not the only thing, weeks old pups also cannot poop and urine on their own so I had to help him do it as well. It was really tiring and draining of energy and money. His milk costs more than a thousand bucks per can. This is aside from the fact that we have to visit the vet almost everyday and pay prof fee! waaaah! But I tell you after all the hard work and tons of prayers, I was the happiest when he was finally out of danger. Now, he is barking and running around like crazy. So cute!

Now very active.

My brother said that owning a dog actually adds two years in your life span. I have five, so simple Math tells me I have extra ten years to spend.

Not all people like dogs. And for people who want to own one, it should be reiterated that it takes time, effort and money to have dogs but the return is priceless.

If you have a heart for dogs and want to help, you can do it by donating to or volunteering for PAWS. Or better, you can choose to adopt a pooch for yourself ;)

xoxo
